blog / Comments!

screen.garden now supports comments in notes, enabling true collaboration—and solo meta-notetaking.

I remember when we first used screen.garden as a prototype. After seeing each other write “omg” and “it works!!” in realtime, we started listing out features we’d want to add. And then, naturally, we started annotating the features the other person had written with our own thoughts. We settled on adding subbullets under our ideas, stuff like

We realized what we were doing was imitating comments.

So, after building out a platform we’re proud of and that covers the basics—full vault sync, attachment/file sync, private and restricted folders—we set about building the very first feature we realized we’d need. Today, we’re thrilled to announce that screen.garden has first-class support for comments.

A totally normal comment conversation

Comments in screen.garden are much like comments on other document platforms—the key difference is that our comments work offline, just like you’d expect in a local-first app like Obsidian. You comment on selections within your note and get beautiful highlights (that you can turn off when you want to focus). Comments can be resolved when you no longer need them.

We also added comment support to the web, because why not. You get the same features as in the Obsidian plugin, allowing web users to annotate and collaborate with Obsidian users—and giving you quick access to comments when you don’t have access to Obsidian.

We’re so excited about this feature and what it enables for teams and individuals. screen.garden starts with a one-week free trial: try it today, and let us know what you think.
