blog / Lowering prices through efficient sync

We’re lowering our prices, crediting our existing customers, and want to tell you how.

I’ll lead with the practical bit: we are lowering the price of our base plan to $4/month for teams of up to three, and only charging $2 for each additional member after that. Users with existing subscriptions have had the difference applied as a credit to their account, and we invite new customers to check out our new pricing page.

As we laid out in our early access post, pricing a service like screen.garden is really hard! We run servers on the internet, and that costs money. We had suspected at launch that our code was pretty efficient, but measurements post-launch showed us that we were wrong: our code was really efficient. Because we only send the bits of a note that change during sync, our plugin is fast and our servers are happy.

This means that we can lower our prices without taking anything away. We want to be the best solution for collaborating within Obsidian and on the web, and the lower our entry price the better we can be for teams of all shapes and sizes.

In fact, our new pricing gives solo users a bit more for free: you can now invite two other people to your team without paying any more per month. All screen.garden subscriptions now include the first 3 seats for a total of 4 dollars a month. Subsequent seats are even cheaper, at two bucks a seat.

Eagle-eyed readers might notice that we’re calling this the base plan. That’s because we’re now working on features that are really, really powerful…so powerful that they cost us a bit more to run. We’re planning to eventually launch an additional pro plan as a place to put these features, see if we can get them cheaper like we did for sync, and if so move them to the base plan, too.

That’s our update! Remember that new users still get one week of screen.garden for free, so please check it out! We’ve also been hard at work fixing things behind the scenes to make the service even more reliable—you won’t regret taking it for a spin.
